Lincoln’s Tomb – A Fitting Remembrance
Completed and dedicated 9 years after his assassination, the Lincoln Tomb is the final resting place of Lincoln, his wife and three of their four sons. The tomb is over 117 feet tall, and physically quite imposing. The fact that it is imposing is a testament to the Lincoln legacy.
Seven days after his death, Lincoln’s body was transported by train to Springfield, but along the way, an estimated 2 million mourners viewed the casket and Lincoln lying in state. More people saw Lincoln in death than had seen him in life.
