So I am most excited about seeing Key West at Christmas. I am a nut about Christmas and I hear Key West celebrates everything BIG!
This is an exciting part of the trip because we will have two other couples (our dear friends Jean/Matt and Lori/Scott) joining us on this part of our journey. This will make Key West even more memorable. Lori is in love with the Keys, so I can’t wait for her to give us the grand tour!
Just to give you some background about me. I’m Buddhist, but I’m also a Christmas-maniac! At home, I don’t just put out one decorated tree for the holidays, as even the most dedicated Christian would. That’s too easy. I fill the whole house with Santa, stockings, snow men and reindeer. I have two six-foot fake trees, a sixties retro “foil” tree, five table tops and decorations galore (all in storage)… I also have a Bowling Green State University (Go Falcons!) themed tree, snowmen themed tree, gold, white, red decorations, berry decorations.
There are Christmas decorations in every room of the house (except for the bathroom – even I have limitations!). Some rooms have multiples trees – we need a bigger house. From the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas day, our cottage house feels even more cozy with all the yuletide-ness.
Plus Kimmer and I have been exchanging one ornament a year, every year since we’ve been together (1996). We buy each other and each of our pets an ornament. It’s very sentimental to unwrap all of our family ornaments each season – obviously my favorite time of the year. I love drinking hot cocoa with Kimmer and just sitting on the couch looking at the blinking fire-hazard that is our 6-9 Christmas trees.
This year, while I won’t have the comfort of my annual ornament fix, I will have a group of my closest friends and my hubby (as well as 76 degree temperature) to warm my heart. I probably won’t need cocoa this year either – I’m thinking Margaritas.
I’ve always wanted to see the Keys. Someday I’ll do it!
Can’t wait to see pictures! Get on the road already!!!
Might be the Best Christmas EVER! Margaritas for the Sunset Celebration on Mallory Square. How could it not be?
It might be the best Christmas ever!
Whoohoo! Looking forward to putting my toes in the sand -that may be the soonest I can get to a beach!
Lucky you! I love your write-up, by the way. Plus, since you will be heading down to the Keys, make sure to plan a stop at Bahia Honda State Park. It is THE most beautiful sand beach I have ever seen…
Oh Vicky, I am so jealous, while we are here freezing at christmas, you will be tanning.
